Hurricane Laura, then still a tropical storm, made landfall in the Dominican Republic and Haiti, an area already trying to recover from Hurricane Isaias on August 21. The storm progressed into the Gulf of Mexico, becoming a Category 4 hurricane before making landfall in Louisiana on August 26 and is tied as the strongest storm to make landfall in Louisiana. Officials are just beginning to assess the damage as many areas have been inaccessible. To date, it is reported that nearly 900,000 people are without power and 4 people have died, with that number expected to increase as recovery efforts continue.
