People in India are facing a dire situation as COVID-19 cases continue to surge amid a vaccination rate of only 1.2%. Since March, the government of India has reported an 8% increase in new cases of COVID-19, including 2 million new cases over the past two weeks. There has been a 10% spike in the number of deaths from this second wave and residents of India’s most rural areas are experiencing a shortage of health workers, facilities, oxygen supplies, and laboratory services.
