Hurricane Michael, one of the strongest storms to hit the US in many years, made landfall near Panama City, Florida on Wednesday, October 10. Its devastating impact is widespread with catastrophic damage. Those impacted will need immediate support in response to this disaster as well as ongoing support for long term recovery. The Center for Disaster Philanthropy recommends the following charities to provide disaster relief to those affected by the storm.
A 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck Palu, Indonesia on the island of Sulawesi which triggered a devastating tsunami and subsequent landslides on September 28. Almost 2,000 people lost their lives and at least 5,000 are still missing. Much of the region’s infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed leaving some areas of the island inaccessible. More than 70,000 people have been displaced and survivors are in desperate need of aid.

Hurricane Florence brought widespread flooding throughout the southern and mid-Atlantic states. Many residents of North Carolina and South Carolina are still in need at this time.
